October 28, 2006 - Counter-demo against International ANSWER

International ANSWER has annouced rallies across the US on October 28, including in San Francisco. Of course, regardless of what ANSWER's specific complaints are, it always comes down to blaming Israel. From the International ANSWER website: "The war in Iraq is part of a region-wide strategy in the Middle East. The bankrolling of Israels escalating war against the Palestinian people is a central component of this strategy."

As always, when ANSWER decides to hold another rally to demonstrate its own support of terror (with Hezbollah and Hamas flags and signs not only glorifying the leaders of those terror groups but also calling outright to "Kill all Jews"), StandWithUs/SF Voice for Israel will be there with Israeli and American flags and pro-Israel signs.

Join us at 11:30 in UN Plaza (Hyde at Fulton Street on the west side, Market between 8th and 9th on the east side)in San Francisco to stand up for Israel's right to exist in peace as a Jewish state! Please note that this event is NOT at the usual location in Civic Center Plaza, but rather just 1 block east of there.

We do not yet know where SFPD will request us to set up within the plaza to counter-protest ANSWER. Just look for the Israeli and American flags and you'll find us!

August 12, 2006 - Wrong A.N.S.W.E.R. Counter-Rally

On Saturday, August 12, International ANSWER held a pro-Hezbollah, pro-jihad, anti-Israel rally in Civic Center Plaza. At previous ANSWER events opposition to the war in Iraq was the main dish, with a hefty side order of anti-Zionism, but on this day, Israel-bashing was to be the main course. As always, StandWithUs/SFVoiceForIsrael had prepared a pro-Israel counterdemonstration. As the sun rose higher into the sky, hundreds of people were Civic Center-- to stand on our side! They came to stand for Israel's right to exist in peace and against ANSWER's support for Hezbollah and "intifada". By 11:30 AM, ANSWER's rally was in full swing-- with almost as many people on our side as on theirs; several times their speaker had to ask the meager crowd to come back to the front of the stage and "stop drawing attention to the people across the street"-- probably because they didn't have anyone listening to their speaker's harangues! Of course, those announcements were met by loud cheers, whistles, applause, and shofar blasts from our side. Our side featured a musician from the Israel Center (thank you, Achi!) leading songs of peace such as "Oseh Shalom" and "Shir Ha-Shalom"; their side featured chants of "intifada, intifada". Our side featured American and Israeli flags; theirs featured not only Palestinian and Lebanese flags, but also flags of the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah, with posters praising Hezbollah's genocidal leader Nasrallah. After the intial speechifying, ANSWER left to take off on their march, disrupting traffic throughout downtown SF. Most of our participants left at that point, their mitzvah for the day having been accomplished. A small contingent did remain across the street to confront the more hard-core jihadist remnant fo the march that returned to Civic Center Plaza; at one point, the jihadists burned an Israeli flag that had somehow been stolen from us, then tried to rush across the street but were prevented from doing so by SFPD, which provided excellent protection. It was yet another example of ANSWER's lies when the speaker asked the police to stay away and not interfere in a "peaceful rally" at the moment that their own jihadis were trying to start a riot. We will be posting pictures on our website (www.sfvoiceforisrael.org) as soon as we have a chance to go through them-- we have many photos both of our side and of theirs! StandWithUs/SFVoiceForIsrael would like to specifically thank the 400-500 of you came out to stand up for Israel-- at most, there were 1500 on the other side (certainly not the 10,000 that they were both advertising in advance and claiming afterwards). This was a phenomenal turnout for us, and was clearly a source of great dismay to ANSWER. We would also like to thank the Jewish Community Relations Council and the director of JCRC's Middle East Project, Yitzhak Santis, for invaluable support. We also want to thank all of the other community organizations that forwarded our notice to their members. Many of you expressed a desire to get even more Jewish commmunity organizations involved with this effort; the leadership of StandWithUs/SFVoiceforIsrael completely supports that idea and we would be delighted to discuss our group's work with anyone who is interested in helping to support us! Contact us at info@sfvoiceforisrael.org. We also want to take a moment address a problem which, although isolated, reflects badly both on our group and on the pro-Israel message which we are trying to project. There were a very few signs that were displayed that were completely unacceptable-- ones that said "destroy Islam", "no Muslims west of the Jordan", "Islam is a blast" (with a picture of a bomb) and one that had caricatures of Muslims which we would certainly consider anti-Semitic if portraying Jews. Thank goodness none of these signs made it onto TV or into the Chronicle. The media has enough trouble understanding the story (one of the TV reports Saturday evening ended with "after all, both sides just want peace"-- I don't know what rally THAT reporter was attending, but it sure wasn't ANSWER's!); we certainly don't want to make it seem like "it's just extremists on both sides." Of course, these signs are being prominently featured on IndyBay (an "independent" media site that functions as ANSWER's own propaganda machine) under the headline "SF Voice for Israel Sounds Like Old Fashioned Racism and Bigotry". SF Voice for Israel leadership condemns those messages; those of you who brought them should not do so again. There is an ongoing effort through JCRC to document and challenge the overt anti-Semitism within ANSWER, as seen on many signs on their side yesterday-- by bringing these messages, you completely sabotage this. If such signs are seen again, we have the option of asking the police to remove you on the grounds that you are a provocateur from ANSWER trying to hurt our image and our cause. Otherwise, it was a fantastic day for us and for the pro-Israel effort in the Bay Area. We had a tremendous turnout that was clearly disheartening to ANSWER, we received much more TV coverage than we previously received, and we received some wonderful e-mail responses from Israel in response to the photos of us sent there by some of our participants (this will be posted on ourwebsite soon). Kol ha-kavod all those who showed up to stand peacefully, with appropriate messages, in support of Israel! Please continue to send useful ideas and suggestions to us at info@sfvoiceforisrael.org. Watch our website for upcoming opportunities to stand up for Israel-- we know that ANSWER has another large march and rally planned for October 28, and we will be there!

July 27, 2006 - Counter-protest anti-Israel demonstration outside Senator Feinstein's office

EMERGENCY ACTION ALERT
Thursday, July 27th, 4:30PM
1 Post St., Downtown San Francisco (at Montgomery and Market Streets)
Please bring your own flags and signs, if at all possible.

On July 23rd, Senator Dianne Feinstein appeared at the pro-Israel rally in downtown San Francisco and strongly asserted her support for Israel?s right to self defense. As a result, anti-Israel activists and terror supporters plan to demonstrate outside her San Francisco office tomorrow. http://www.adcsf.org/SideBar/Action/ActionAlert.htm

BACKGROUND:

Israel is presently engaged in military operations fighting the outlaw terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon following Hezbollah?s murder of several Israel soldiers and kidnap of two of Israel?s soldiers. These two, Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, along with Galid Shalit who was kidnapped by Hamas several weeks before, were all kidnapped on internationally recognized sovereign Israeli land and have been denied visits from the International Red Cross as demanded by the Geneva Convention. Additionally, Hezbollah has shot hundreds of missiles on Israeli population centers leading to multiple deaths, property damage, and the internal displacement of approximately 750,000 Northern Israeli citizens.

Hezbollah has been condemned worldwide for its actions, including rare rebukes from the UN and even Arab nations such as Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, UN humanitarian chief Jan Egeland condemned Hezbollah for its ?cowardly blending among Lebanese civilians and causing the deaths of hundreds.? Lebanon itself is currently in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1559 which demanded the disarmament of Hezbollah over two years ago.

The people behind the protest of Senator Feinstein?s office not only oppose Israel?s right to self defense, but they have repeatedly opposed Israel?s right to even exist! Their recent protests have been filled with pro-terrorism chants, specifically supporting Hamas and Hezbollah and vicious anti-Semitic chants such as ?Kill the Jews? and ?Jews are our dogs.? See some examples here: http://www.zombietime.com/israeli_consulate_protest_july_13_2006/"

RALLY DETAILS:

As always, StandWithUs/San Francisco Voice for Israel will counter the genocidal anti-Israel propaganda and hate. Due to the quick announcement of this event, StandWithUs/San Francisco Voice for Israel members will be unlikely to bring our usual supplies. You can help greatly by bringing your own flags and signs, if you have them.

We know that it is very difficult with events coming so close together lately. Unfortunately, in this time of crisis, our enemies have been relentless, and we in turn must not back down. Even if you can come for just a few minutes, please add your voice to the pro-Israel demonstration so that our enemies know that even when they try to keep us away by holding events during the workday, we will still be there!

Please bring your noisemakers, flags, and signs. As always, feel free to make your own signs but please no signs or graphics offensive to any racial or ethnic group including but not limited to Arabs, Islam, or Palestinians. Signs in violation of our policies will not be allowed.

Stand With Israel!
Stand Against Terror!
Demand Lebanon disarm Hezbollah!
Demand an end to rocket attacks against Israeli civilians!
Demand Gilad Shalit, Eldad Regev, and Ehud Goldwasser be returned home safely!

July 23, 2006 - Community Wide Solidarity Rally for Israel

12 Noon at Justin Herman Plaza, Downtown San Francisco
(at the foot of Market Street and the Embarcadero)

BACKGROUND:

On July 11th, Hezbollah terrorists from Lebanon infiltrated into Israel and captured two Israeli soldiers and murdered eight more. In response, Israel launched an all out operation to rescue her soldiers. Hezbollah subsequently started a murderous campaign against Israeli citizens by bombing civilian targets across northern Israel including in Haifa, Israel?s third largest city and San Francisco?s sister city. Not content to just murder Jews, Hezbollah has attacked numerous Arab cities within Israel including the largest Arab city of Nazareth and has also bombed the gardens of the beautiful Baha?i Temple in Haifa. Sadly, Hezbollah also uses the citizens of Lebanon as human shields for Hezbollah?s despicable activities thus causing numerous civilian casualties as Israel works to neutralize Hezbollah?s murderous capability and retrieve the captured Israeli soldiers.

All this is occurring while Israel continues its operation in Gaza to end the constant barrage of missiles on southern Israel and win the release of the kidnapped soldier captured last month. None of the captured soldiers are being granted Geneva Convention rights as prisoners of war.

Hezbollah likes to claim that they are ?resistance? to ?occupation.? This is disputed even by the UN, who certified that Israel was no longer operating on any part of Lebanese territory as determined by the UN demarcated ?blue line? setting Israel?s northern border. Furthermore, the UN called for Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah in UN Security Resolution 1559 ? a step the Lebanese government has refused to take.

RALLY DETAILS:

A broad spectrum of the pro-Israel community will rally in solidarity with Israel. Numerous prominent speakers will be present as well as a large number of sponsors. Also likely to be present will be a large, noisy protest by the anti-Israel groups who have promised to disrupt any Israeli solidarity events. They have pledged their allegiance to Hamas and Hezbollah as well and have taunted pro-Israel activists with anti-Semitic chants and taunts, even at the ?Jewish led? anti-Israel protest on July 17th. You can see some examples here: http://www.zombietime.com/israeli_consulate_protest_july_13_2006/

We will be standing in solidarity with community while also using our experience with the anti-Israel protestors to keep them away from the main rally. Please bring your noisemakers, flags, and signs. As always, feel free to make your own signs but please no signs or graphics offensive to any racial or ethnic group including but not limited to Arabs, Islam, or Palestinians. July 17, 2006 - Counter Protest Jewish Anti-Israel demonstration

On Monday at noon, ?Jewish Voice For Peace? (JVP) and ?Jews for a Free Palestine? (JFFP) will hold a ?Jewish led? demonstration against Israel in front of 456 Montgomery Street in San Francisco, the building in which the Israeli Consulate is located.
http://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/publish/article_659.shtml

These groups have been issuing statements in the name of ?Bay Area Jews? but the reality is that they represent only a fringe of the Jewish community. Jewish Voice for Peace endorses divestment from Israel, and consistently stands with those who actively work for Israel?s destruction. Most of their leaders have signed petitions of people of Jewish descent in favor of the Palestinian ?right of return? ? code for flooding Israel with descendants of Arabs who left Israel in the 1948 war to demographically destroy the world?s only Jewish State.

?Jews for a Free Palestine? is a member of the ?Justice In Palestine? coalition with ANSWER and Al-Awda and openly endorses the destruction of Israel.

Throughout history, people of Jewish descent have stood with the oppressors of Jews, and the ?anti-Zionist? movement is no different. Some are self-hating Jews. Some have adopted an extremist agenda and exploit their Jewish in an attempt to insulate anti-Semites against charges of anti-Semitism. Others suffer from the ?battered child syndrome? who believe that somehow Jewish persecution must be due to Jewish behavior, just as abused children sometimes blame themselves for their abuse at the hands of others.

EVENT DETAILS:
As always, StandWithUs/San Francisco Voice for Israel will counter the genocidal anti-Israel propaganda and hate, regardless of who is spreading the disinformation. The world must know that JVP/JFFP do not speak for the Jewish Community in the Bay Area. We will bring Israeli and American flags, pro-Israel signs, and most importantly, the truth to counter the lies of the ?house Jews.?

We know that it is very difficult with events coming so close together lately. Unfortunately, in this time of crisis, our enemies have been relentless, and we in turn must not back down. Demand the Palestinian Authority and Lebanese government put an end to terror attacks! Demand an end to the deligitimization and demonization of Israel! July 13, 2006 - CounterProtest Thursday at Israeli Consulate

Counter Protest Anti-Israel demonstration outside the Israeli Consulate Downtown San Francisco, 456 Montgomery Street Thursday July 13, 4:30PM
This action is now being co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council!

On Thursday afternoon during rush hour, al-Awda, A.N.S.W.E.R., MECA, and ISM will again demonstrate at the Israeli Consulate in downtown San Francisco against Israel?s actions in Gaza. They call it an ?assault on the Palestinian people? and claim that ?Palestinians are dying.? What they fail to mention is that the raid is in response to a sustained barrage of missiles from Gaza into Israel and the internationally condemned kidnapping of a young Israeli soldier by Hamas militants. The groups sponsoring this demonstration all demonize Israel as ?apartheid,? endorse Israel?s destruction, and refuse to even acknowledge the violence the Palestinians perpetrated against Israel that led to Israel?s defensive actions. On Monday July 3rd, they protested not just Israel's defensive action in Gaza, but its very existence-- and they plan to do it again this Thursday!

When Israel disengaged from Gaza last year, they promised that assaults on Israel from Gaza would be met with harsh response. In line with international demands, Israel opened border crossings with Gaza when there were not specific terrorist threats and turned over the Rafah crossing to the Palestinians with international observers. Despite this, the Gazan militant groups, many supported or funded by Hamas, intensified their rocket attacks into Israel. Following a prolonged period where Israel exercised restraint in the face of continuing assaults, Israel struck back at the militants terrorizing Israel?s cities and farms near Gaza to put an end to the assault on its citizens.

San Francisco Voice for Israel/Stand With Us will counter the anti-Israel/pro-terrorism voice. We will bring Israeli and American flags, pro-Israel signs, and most importantly, the truth to counter the genocidal hate and lies of the anti-Israel groups. Our presence at these events has proven highly effective at countering their message and making sure that the anti-Israel activists can not push their propaganda on the public unopposed!

Please bring your noisemakers, flags, and signs. As always, feel free to make your own signs but please no signs or graphics offensive to any racial or ethnic group including but not limited to Arabs, Islam, or Palestinians. Signs in violation of our policies will not be allowed.

Demand an end to Palestinian rocket attacks against Israeli civilians! Demand Cpl Gilad Shalit be returned home safely! Demand the Palestinian Authority put an end to terror attacks! Demand an end to the deligitimization and demonization of Israel! Demand the Palestinian Authority and their local supporters choose peace so that the Palestinian people can have a future!

January 17, 2005 - SF VOICE FOR ISRAEL PRESENTS: RALLY AGAINST GLOBAL TERROR

This report came from one of the participants: Someone will certainly write a full report on the rally. There are many photos...much media, nationally and internationally. The rally went well. I would like to share the highlight of the 1/17/05 SF Bombed Bus Rally for me. It was after the event was over. Most of the people had dispersed. The Martin Luther King Rally and Freedom Train had ended across the street. Suddenly, people crossed the park and stepped onto the rampway of the Bombed Bus. They filed on one by one and filed off one by one, in an endless stream of sober and silent visitors, viewing the seats, and the wreckage, with utmost respect and sacred attention. There were more and more people..they kept coming in scores. I stopped a group of 15 teens and asked "where are you coming from? What brought you here?" This group of many said they were from Pacific Union College Prep School in Napa. Their teacher Heather Dentin brought them there. I tracked down Heather to thank her and ask her what made her bring her class. She brought them to the Martin Luther King Parade. After it ended they all wanted to see the Bus across the street. It was the students that requested to see the exhibit. But there were others also. I kept thinking "I hope the bus packs up quickly so it is not tampered with. It is a holy Museum." Who are all these people? Where are they coming from? They trailed in steadily and wouldn't stop. They were coming from everywhere and asking for literature. They were asking questions about the bus but most of the information was gone. Still, I can assure you that the Bus left a lasting impression of terrorism with them. I could tell from their faces. My guess is that there were over 100 people in a steady progression of awe. As I left. I drove around the block and took one last look. Five young hoodlums with Kaffiyehs wrapped around their heads, blocking their faces from view, surrounded the back of the bus with obvious attempts to figure out a way to harm it. They were about to board the back as they looked to see if anyone was watching. Suddenly, ten police motorcycles drove between them and the bus and they ran away. Thank you Philip Roth SFPD. The visitors from nowhere were finally gone. Our unexpected and humbled visitors were the highlight of the 1/17 Bombed Bus Rally for me.

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in South Berkeley, the anti-Israel faithful gathered to hear two of their favorite anti-Israel propagandists. San Francisco Voice for Israel was right there to counter them. In an event sponsored by Jews for a Free Palestine and the Middle Eastern Children’s Alliance, Uda Walker and Susan Green spoke out against Israel’s anti-terrorism barrier. They demand that all of it be torn down, not just the parts that don’t follow the 1948 Armistice line, known as the Green Line. While they spoke to an audience of 33 people, roughly eight of them stayed outside to observe approximately 30 pro-Israel activists holding Israeli flags, dancing to Israeli music, and holding signs reminding conference goers and passersby that if there were no terror, there would be no fence. The spirited multigenerational group came as quite a surprise to the anti-Israel crowd. They made a few phone calls and a meager counter-protest materialized. They held signs calling the USA and Israel affronts to humanity and held aloft the usual signs equating the Jewish Star of David with a Nazi Swastika. Additionally, they taunted us with their by now customary anti-Semitic chants of ''Go Back to Brooklyn!'' and ''Go Back to Russia!'' The public was clearly on our side this time, as evidenced by the honks and cheers of support from passing cars containing passengers of all races and ages. As is common at our rallies, passersby engaged us, offered us help, and joined in the protest by holding signs and flags. Once again, the enemies of Israel showed their true anti-Semitic and anti-American character, and once again, we were there to confront them. As our voice continues to grow stronger, we will be there to confront the enemies of Israel wherever they appear.
